Where to find the cheapest houses in Leicestershire

A new survey shows that Aylestone Road in Leicester is currently the cheapest place to buy a home in the county.

A survey of the entire LE postcode area found that Falmouth Road in Rowlatts Hill came second and Rutland Street in the city centre was the third cheapest.

At the other end of the scale, properties in Charnwood Forest and other rural settings dominated the most-expensive list.

The data, compiled by the Property Solvers estate agent, used selling prices for the past five years for homes of all sizes ranging from bedsits to mansions.

The information from the Land Registry since early 2016 showed that Warren Hill near Bradgate Park was the most expensive in terms of the average sale price at just under £1.6 million.

That was followed by Stamford Road in Kirby Muxloe, which is a leafy winding road dotted with expensive mansions that, over the past five years, have sold for an average of £1.28 million.

Swithland Lane in Rothley was a close third, with the four properties that changed hands since 2016 going for about £1.22 million.

Commenting on how the lists were calculated, Property Solvers co-founder Ruban Selvanayagam said: “To keep the data less skewed, we only ranked the streets that had over three sales.

“It’s therefore worth noting that, in recent years, a property on Bull Brigg Lane in Whitwell sold for £2,510,000 and, at the other end of the market, there were properties that sold for £46,000 and under on Barnard Close and Munnings Close in Leicester and Polden Close in Shepshed.”
