Travis Weller’s Far Out/Out Far Collection Runs Amok With Color

Marin-based artist Travis Weller utilizes cut paper and oil to compose engagingly graphic abstractions ripe for personal interpretation. He’s also an avid trail runner, a passionate pastime which he drew upon to design one of the most fun – and fashionable – lines of activewear we’ve seen in 2022. Part of Roark’s Run Amok collection, the Weller-designed Far Out/Out Far Capsule Collection takes is hues and cues from the dense forests and rolling ridge lines of Northern California’s legendary Mt. Tamalpais and turns it into a colorful, patterned camouflage that seems the antithesis of blending in.

“The artwork that inspired the print for this collection is my take on camouflage, both in the physical and emotional sense. The print can be associated with patterned camouflage, helping to become one with the environment,” says artist Travis Weller about his collection, “But equally important, it speaks to how emotion is often camouflaged externally and only felt within. Running helps me to break down the walls to access deep emotions, bring them to the surface and into my work.”

Weller notes for many years he separated his art from his passion for running in nature, categorizing art as a subjective pursuit while deeming running an activity of objectivity. “Once l was able to create the space for them to function together and accept they need each other, my relationship with art and running truly blossomed,” remarks Weller. The results are a vibrantly realized cohesive statement of the integration of the two in the form of a capsule collection comprising active and run shorts, t-shirt, a packable ultra-lightweight Secondwind 2.0 jacket, hat, and fleece pants, perfect for mix and matching, and also wearing with other outdoor wear.

The Roark Far Out/Out Far collection is first and foremost activewear. But in its colorful interpretive graphic design, it captures the mood and motion that makes trail runners venture day after day onto the paths well traveled alongside new ones yet to be explored.
