Schumer doesn’t ‘approve’ of New York congressional map triggering infighting among House Dems

Senate Majority Chief Chuck Schumer Wednesday said he opposes the newly established New York congressional maps roiling the Residence side of his state’s delegation, but declined to remark on the drama about who is running in which district. 

“I want they had drawn distinctive maps, I don’t approve of the maps that were being drawn. The circumstance in the delegation is fluid so I’m not going to comment on that,” Schumer, D-N.Y., said. 

The remark arrives as Democratic Congressional Marketing campaign Committee (DCCC) Chair Sean Patrick Maloney, D-N.Y., declared he is managing for New York’s redrawn 17th Congressional District.

Maloney’s house is in the traces of the new 17th district. But he currently signifies additional geographical area in the new 18th Congressional District, which would be a harder seat for a Democrat to get in a standard election.

In the meantime, Rep. Mondaire Jones, D-N.Y., who now signifies much more of the 17th District, vented to Politico soon immediately after Maloney announced he’d be managing in that district — perhaps placing up a member-on-member major.

Maloney, meanwhile, defends his final decision by saying that the 17th district will however be aggressive, and that he is the only member who life there.

Meanwhile, two other senior Democratic users of Congress could encounter off versus just about every other in a important Manhattan key battle. Residence Judiciary Committee Chair Jerry Nadler, D-N.y., and Household Oversight Committee Chair Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., both equally announced their intention this week to run in the recently-drawn 12th district. 

“I am proud to announce that I will be running to proceed to symbolize the 12th Congressional District. A vast majority of the communities in the newly redrawn NY-12 are ones I have represented for a long time and to which I have deep ties,” Maloney wrote.
