Check out a five-bedroom, Prairie Foursquare-style house on Dallas’ Swiss Avenue in a May home tour

Judith Zeng May 6, 2022

Here’s a rare opportunity for lovers of historic luxury homes: if you want to see this 1916 Prairie Foursquare-style home on Swiss Avenue up close, you can.

The home will be part of the Swiss Avenue Historic District Mother’s Day Home Tour next week on May 7 and 8. The five-bedroom home is on the market and under contract, but it will be part of the home tour this year.

The 5,269-square-foot home has five bedrooms and four full bathrooms, plus guest quarters over the detached garage. Because the home is part of a designated historic district, homeowners must adhere to rigorous standards while renovating properties in the area so that the history and original design of the home is preserved.

Listing agent Kyle Baugh of Compass said the home’s previous owners, including the sellers, have maintained and improved the property.

“The last few owners have been really meticulous to keep it up,” Baugh said.

The sellers have made extensive renovations in the last four years, he said, including updating the bathrooms, refinishing the floors and functional updates like the plumbing and electrical systems.

Living rooms are located on either side of the home’s foyer, with a more formal space with a fireplace to the left of the foyer and a library to the right. The formal living room is open to the adjacent dining room, which has stained-glass windows that, according to information from the listing agent, were added after the home was built. The library room has built-in bookcases and an original Rookwood tile fireplace. A bonus space on the other side of the fireplace wall is used as a den but Baugh said it was originally a screened porch.

The kitchen has ample built-in cabinets and countertop surface, and the room connects to a bar area that was previously a porch. The bar area has additional countertop space, cabinets, a sink and a small refrigerator. A bedroom and a full bathroom are also located on the first level of the home.

The home’s primary suite and three additional bedrooms are located on a second level that includes a sunroom that is accessible from two of the bedrooms. The primary suite and one other bedroom have en suite bathrooms, and the two remaining bedrooms share a bathroom. All of the bedrooms are full of natural light with large windows throughout the home.

The third level of the home has a bonus room that acts as an additional living space. The room has a vaulted ceiling and even a nook for working from home. There’s also a wine cellar on the basement level. Outside, the home has a pool in the backyard and a detached, two-car garage with guest quarters.

The home at 5647 Swiss Ave. is listed for $2,395,000. It is currently under contract.
